Acoustics of auditoriums and conference halls

In a conference room or auditorium, the most important thing is to ensure every word is understood in every row and over a video conference microphone. Echoes, the hum of air conditioners, and noise from the hallway can interfere with this. IN TECH STROY equipped the hotel conference room, the conference room and office, and facilities at the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the InterContinental Hotel, and the Courtyard by Marriott Tashkent.

Key figures

  • The recommended reverberation time for a meeting room or small conference hall is approximately 0.5–0.8 s; for larger auditoriums, up to 1.0 s, depending on the volume.
  • To ensure privacy in the meeting room, the partition must have a high sound insulation index Rw (usually 45–50 dB), and the ceiling must have increased longitudinal sound insulation.

Typical problems

  • Echoes from glass, concrete and smooth surfaces blur speech.
  • Poor sound in video conferences.
  • Conversations in the meeting room can be heard in neighboring offices.
  • The hum of ventilation and engineering equipment.

Our solutions

  • The ceiling is made of class A acoustic panels (Rockfon, Ecophon, AMF); above the stage or podium there are sound-reflecting areas to ensure better voice reception in the back rows.
  • Walls – Decoustic or HERADESIGN sound absorbing panels on the back wall to eliminate reflections.
  • Soundproofing – partitions and cladding with mineral wool and membranes, slabs with increased sound insulation Rockfon Blanka dB.
  • Vibration isolation of engineering equipment.

How we work

  1. Measurement and analysis of the premises.
  2. Calculation of reverberation time and sound insulation.
  3. Selection of materials for interior design.
  4. Delivery and installation.

Placement of materials in the hall

  • There is a sound-absorbing ceiling above the audience to reduce the overall level of reverberation.
  • Above the podium and near the screen there are sound-reflecting or less absorbent areas that direct the voice into the audience.
  • The back wall is made of sound-absorbing panels to prevent delayed reflections and echoes.
  • The side walls are an alternation of absorbing and diffusing surfaces.
  • Doors and partitions are highly soundproofed for privacy.

This placement allows you to do without excessive finishing and preserve the lively sound of the voice.

Frequently asked questions

How to remove echo in a conference room?

Install a Class A sound-absorbing ceiling and acoustic panels on the rear and side walls. The amount of materials is calculated based on the volume of the room to ensure speech is intelligible and the room doesn’t sound “muffled.”

How to make a meeting room so that conversations cannot be heard from outside?

Partitions with a high sound insulation index, sealed doors, and ceiling tiles with increased sound insulation (such as Rockfon Blanka dB) are required. It’s important that the partition extends to the ceiling or that the ceiling above it insulates the sound.

Do you need an acoustics project for a conference room?

For halls seating 50 or more, we recommend a calculation: this allows you to accurately select the quantity and arrangement of materials and avoid overpaying.

Do you carry out work in existing offices and hotels?

Yes, we have experience working in InterContinental and Courtyard by Marriott hotels, government agencies and business centers.
